Joris Rotmans
CSO (Nephrologist)
Joris is co-founder and CSO of XS Innovations and internist-nephrologist and professor at the Leiden University Medical Centre. There, he combines clinical activities for patients with kidney disease with scientific research
His primary focus is on the improvement of vascular access for hemodialysis from which the scientific basis of this novel device originates. He has numerous patents to his name in the field of vascular access for hemodialysis and is considered a key opinion leader in the vascular access field

Koen van der Bogt
CMO (Vascular and transplant surgeon)
Koen is co-founder and CMO at XS Innovations. He is also a vascular and transplant surgeon and the surgical lead for vascular access of three hospitals in the the Netherlands.

Ruairi Duffy
CTO
Ruairi Duffy is part of XS Innovations from the start and has previously held senior leadership roles in product development across pharma, medtech, and healthcare. He has experience in corporate, startup, and scale-up environments, working in multinational settings.
He has a proven track record in R&D, product development, and securing regulatory approvals, successfully bringing innovations to market across Europe, the US, and other regions.

Nick White
R&D Engineer
Nick graduated cum laude in Mechanical Engineering from TU Delft and has been involved in XS Innovations from the very start. Over the past four years, he has dedicated his time to finalizing his PhD, transforming the project from an idea into a functional device. As an R&D Engineer in XS innovations, he focuses on advancing the technology and translating it into clinical applications, bridging the gap between engineering and patient care.

Maaike Talsma
Class III Design Engineer
Maaike was one of the first engineers to join XS Innovations, where she plays a key role in the Design & Development of the device. She holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering from TU Delft and brings valuable experience from her previous work at another medtech startup. With a strong background in medical device development, Maaike is dedicated to translating innovative technology into real-world clinical solutions.

Alexandra Klijn
Business development
Alexandra brings her expertise in strategy, venture building, and business development to XS Innovations, where she focuses on driving the company’s growth and market strategy. With a background in econometrics and five years as a strategy consultant at Roland Berger, she has extensive experience supporting startups in the life sciences sector. At XS Innovations, Alexandra is dedicated to advancing the company’s business strategy, partnerships, and commercialization efforts to bring its innovative solutions to patients worldwide.

Esther Udi
Clinical Trial specialist
Esther serves as a Clinical Trial Specialist at XS Innovations, where she plays a vital role in designing and managing clinical studies.
She holds a Master's degree in Clinical Research from the University of Liverpool and has a background in Laboratory Medicine, Gerontology, and Chemical Pathology.
Prior to joining XS Innovations, Esther gained valuable experience as a resident doctor at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in Nigeria. Her comprehensive expertise in clinical research and patient care significantly contributes to the development and implementation of effective clinical trials at XS Innovations.

Adam Cohen
Clinical and regulatory advice
Prof. Adam Cohen serves as a key advisor to XS Innovations, providing guidance on daily operations and strategic decision-making. As Emeritus Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Leiden University Medical Centre and founder of the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR), he brings extensive experience in early-stage clinical research and innovation.
Under his leadership, CHDR grew into a leading independent institute specializing in early-stage clinical drug research. He also founded the Paul Janssen Futurelab, a program dedicated to training the next generation of drug developers.
With over 30 years as CEO of CHDR, Adam has built a vast global network in the medtech and biotech sectors. His expertise and strategic insights help shape XS Innovations' growth and impact in the field of medical technology.
